All of Scripture is a sacred love story, the love of God the Father for His people. It's a story filled with expectation, longing, and fulfillment. From the beginning, God has lovingly walked with us, called to us, and searched for us even when we turned from Him over and over again. Throughout the Old Testament, God repeatedly calls us back to Himself and time and again we remain unfaithful. He sends His prophets with a call to repent and with that call comes a promise - a promise that one day a savior would come to rescue us and make us whole. It's a promise of hope, a promise of redemption, a promise to be made again into the people we were meant to be, a people fully alive in God.
Advent comes from the Latin 'Adventus' and simply means "coming." Advent is a time to look ahead to the second coming of our Lord, and to rejoice in his first coming among us as the Holy Child of Bethlehem. It's a time of longing. It's a time of preparation. It's a time of hope. And it's a chance to recenter ourselves on the deepest truth we know: that God has come among us in his Son, Jesus! And in his life, death, and resurrection he has rescued us and redeemed us.
Advent is one of my favorite times of the year. Let's celebrate it together.

Guinness World Record holder (it's true!), Ashley Wallace is a homeschooling mom of four married to an Anglican priest. She and her family live in the panhandle of Florida in South Walton where they planted a church eight years ago. Ashley fell in love with the seasons of the church when she was a young mom searching for meaning and a way to interweave more of the things of God into her daily life. In the middle of the day, during a magical two hours called “quiet time”, she wrote this book on celebrating the seasons of the church. She hopes it's a blessing to you and your family.
